Owerri west is a Local Government Area (LGA) in Imo state, Nigeria. It has its headquarters in Umuguma. The Owerri West Local Government Council in Imo State of Nigeria was created by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1996 (carved out of the former Owerri Local Government Area). Communities in this area include Umuguma, Avu, Okuku, Oforola, Obinze, Nnekede, Ihiagwa, Eziobodo, Okolochi, Emeabiam, Irete, Orogwe, Amakohia, Ndegwu, Ohii.
