About Owerri Municipal, Nigeria

Owerri is the capital city of Imo state, Nigeria. It is regarded the heart of igboland, thus, the eastern heartland. Owerri has 3 Local Government Areas, they are: Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West. It was estimated to be populated with about 401,873 people in 2006 and is approximately 100 square kilometres (40 sq mi) in area. Owerri is surrounded by Otamiri River to the east and Nworie River to the south. Christianity is the dominant religion in Owerri. 

The Owerri Slogan is "Heartland". It is currently referred to as the entertainment capital of Nigeria because of its high density of spacious hotels, high street casinos, production studios and high quality centres of relaxation. It is the home to an annual beauty pageant called "Miss Heartland". Owerri has a major Nigerian football club: Heartland F.C. It was known previously as Inwanyawu Nationale, but the team retained its nickname: The Na'azi Millionaires.
